Miss UKFM and Colour Guard
While we are at Pontins, our Miss Majestic will be entered into the UKFM competition. This is the senior girl that would have been named at the intertroupe competition which we hold each year. The winner of this competition will represent the federation throughout the coming year. (Tina was Miss UKFM in 1996/7).Each troupe in the UKFM are asked to nominate a girl to enter Miss UKFM (this is not judged on looks or majorette abilities, but on being a true majorette, her talking and listening skills etc.).
Tina also chooses two candidates to enter for the UKFM colour guard (these are the majorettes that escort the new Miss UKFM). Colour Guard is sometimes a qualifier at the regional competitions.Tina was Colour Guard in 2000 and Jenna (AM42) in 2007.
When Miss UKFM is selected we all go up to the main hall and watch as all the Miss UKFM candidates march up with her colour guard (normally four girls from our troupe Tina selects).
There are a variety of different competitions for the girls to compete in, some will be competitions that they have already qualifyed for in our area competitions.
Fun Novelty Competition
Each year we try to enter a childrens novelty competition; where the girls perform a routine in fancy dress. This will involve some twirling with different items...i.e. flintstones - large paper mache bones, starlight express - large paper mache railway lines and torches, "Its raining men" in rain coats and umbrellas and Scooby Doo. In 2003, the girls did their rendition of Starlight Express and came 3rd.
The adults don't manage to escape this as there is also an adult novelty competiton. This gives the children an opportunity to see us strut our stuff....uummmm or have a good laugh anyway. One adult novelty was "the monster mash", which was performed using potato mashers and dummmies limbs to twirl. We have also entered a combined group with St. Neots Sentinels performing to Summer holiday.
Both the children's and adult's novelty competitions are hilarious to take part in and watch.
We can put brothers/sisters into princess/princess competition too, so please let us know when you book if you'd like to enter them.
This is for the advanced majorette, Eileen sets a challenge, which changes every year. In the past she has had the majorettes wearing a glove, standing in a small area of the floor, having people walk across the arena and non majorette music. If you go to watch this event it is normally upstairs in the small hall and once you begin watching you are not allowed out once it has begin so make sure you wish to sit their for the whole duration if you go to watch
